Be part of our wonderful project!

Who can say today, "I changed his life!"

By supporting the Frédéric Gaillanne Foundation's program, you will enjoy the unique feeling of having changed the path of a visually impaired child by bringing him 'the light under his feet'. Unique school in Europe serving blind and visually impaired children, Frédéric Gaillanne Foundation is the only one to educate guiding dogs exclusively for children.

Located in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Vaucluse (84), the Foundation gives guiding dogs to young people aged from 12 to 18, French and European, completely free of charge for families to ensure real equity.
This pioneering action has been initiated by Frédéric Gaillanne who became blind at age of 20 after an accident. He found unjustified that children under 18 could not have a guiding dog, seeing how much it can bring autonomy and freedom of movement, essential and decisive needs for young people.

Since its creation in 2008, the school has offered more than 110 guiding dogs in France, Belgium, Spain, Portugal and Italy.

A full service support
The Frédéric Gaillanne Foundation offers three modules for visually impaired young people.

• As a first step, they can take part in a "discovery course" designed to make them aware of the responsibility and benefits of having this companion at their side.

• If they wish and if he has the required skills, especially in locomotion, he can integrate a one-week "pre-class". This essential step will allow him to develop its own skills in locomotion and orientation, necessary for the future autonomy provided by the guiding dog. Interaction with the dog will allow him to understand the attention to be paid to it.

• After child department instructor visit to the child home and school to evaluate future integration, the future dog young owner will then be ready to join the "class of delivery", the last step before the autonomy during which a dog adapted to his personality and physical abilities will be allocated to him. He will learn how to manage his new companion in all circumstances and how to move safely in all ciscunstancies.

All these courses are supervised by educators and a locomotion instructor. They take place in a setting specially designed to put young people and their dogs in a situation of daily life through urban and landscaped routes where all their senses must be awakened.

The admission in the program of delivery of a guiding dog is decided collegially by a commission composed of the Directorate of the Child Department, the Dog Department and of the Locomotion Instructor, in coordination with the young person and his family.

The entire dog education program, as well as accommodation during internships and follow-up in families, is fully funded by the Frédéric Gaillanne Foundation.
